Talk About Your Family When you are doing a dynamic public speaking engagement, one way to build rapport with an audience is to include information about your family. Rapport is French origin word for connection, not a French Connection, but a connection with your audience, and that is central to your dynamic public speaking skills. Most people in the audience get the "warm fuzzies" when you mention your spouse or kids in a positive light. Family means joy. Of course, you do run the risk that a few people in the audience may not like their spouse after a big argument or a divorce, or kids for reasons related to rebellion or rejection. But most folks do like to hear positive family stories, even when their family stories are not. Generally the benefits of talking about your family far outweigh the risks. |
